Fault ride-through control of grid-connected photovoltaic power plants: A review

•A comprehensive review of the available FRT control methods for PVPPs is presented.•These methods are classified into modified controller- and external devices-based methods.•Comparison in terms of grid code compliance, complexity and economic feasibility is carried out.•The MIC method is the highly efficient approach among all the other types.•This review provides useful information to solar PV manufacturers and grid operators.
