High throughput and label-free particle sensor based on microwave resonators

•High throughput and label-free particle sensing with microwave resonators at S band is demonstrated.•Phase-locked loop is employed for improving detection resolution.•Smaller particle sensing is achievable as channel size scaling-down.•Results were optimized by using the sensors fabricated by standard printed circuit board manufacturing technology.•Much shorter particle dwell time in split ring resonator sensor.
