•Effects of POFA content in high strength POC lightweight concrete are reported.•Water and air curing effects on behaviour of POC concrete with POFA are presented.•Water curing produces high strength POC lightweight concrete with 40% POFA.•Air curing in tropical climate produces POC concrete of 62 MPa with 10% POFA.•10% POFA enhances mechanical properties and lower water absorption of POC concrete.
