Effects of input data aggregation on simulated crop yields in temperate and Mediterranean climates

•Aggregation error in simulated regional crop yield increases from finer resolution to coarser resolution of input data (soil and climate).•The aggregation error was found to be higher in Mediterranean region than in temperate region, in particular for spring crops.•Mediterranean regions may require higher spatial resolution of input data than temperate humid region for reliable yield estimation at regional scale.
