Generated and induced traffic demand: Empirical evidence from a fixed link toll removal in Norway

•Toll removal triggered an increase in the average annual daily traffic.•Traffic increase could be partly explained by changes in route and transport mode.•Destination choice was not affected by the toll removal for any purpose.•There were no indications of induced traffic because of the toll removal.
