Identifying environmental drivers of chlorophyll-a dynamics in Austral subtropical ephemeral ecosystems

•Pans were distinctively distinguished by morphometric and environmental variables.•Seasonality had a greater effect on pan productivity for small endorheic pans.•Drivers of chl-a concentration were total phosphorous and total suspended solids for all pan types and seasons combined.
