摘要

•The ontogenetic analysis of the root epidermis revealed the presence of a uniseriate epidermis in all taxa.•The protodermis presents exclusively anticlinal divisions. Epidermal cells also undergo solely anticlinal divisions.•The ontogenetic study of the root epidermis shows a new insight into it was believed to be velamen.
