摘要
•Metallocene polymerization catalysts are activated by methylaluminoxane (MAO) as co-catalyst.•AlMe2+ species inherent to the MAO are responsible for this metallocene activation.•High MAO loading is required to form enough active metallocene species for olefin polymerization.•Silica-supported metallocenes adopt a polymeric structure in the absence of MAO.
