Abstract 16198: Burnout and Career Satisfaction Among Cardiologists

Introduction: Physician burnout adversely impacts patient care, but there are few data regarding prevalence or impact in cardiology. Methods: The American College of Cardiology’s (ACC) 2015 Professional Life Survey (PLS) included the validated ‘Mini Z’ burnout assessment. We compared burnout responses to broader questions in this survey about career satisfaction and family responsibilities using z tests. Results: The PLS survey was completed by 2313 US cardiologists (964 women, 1,349 men), 27% of whom reported current burnout. Factors associated with reporting burnout included more time in direct patient care (73% vs 69%, pu003c0.01), less satisfaction with family life (70% vs 90%, p u003c0.001) and family responsibilities hindering professional advancement (40% vs 22%, p u003c0.001).
