•Bubble coalescence measurement in residual brines (the Mg:Ca ratio is 1:10).•Bubble size in flotation column is measured with drift flux method.•Increasing turbulent intensity disturbs the subsurface of the bubbles.•In high turbulent intensity, bubble stability is not determined by ionic strength.
