Canadian Youth Smokeless Tobacco Use - Flavored Product Regulation Insights
TOBACCO REGULATORY SCIENCE(2018)
摘要
Objectives: In this study, we use nationally representative data collected as part of the Canadian Student Tobacco, Alcohol and Drugs Survey (CSTADS) to examine the use of flavored and non-flavored smokeless tobacco (SLT) among youth between 2008/2009-2014/2015. Methods: We examined descriptive analyses of SLT ever use among respondents in grades 6-12 according to year of data collection, by sex by region and grade. Using 2014/2015 data, we conducted logistic regression analyses to examine characteristics associated with SLT ever use, and non-flavored and flavored SLT current use. Results: Experimentation of SLT increased significantly from 3.8% in 2010/2011 to 5.0% in 2014/2015. Experimentation among current smokers increased from 28.7% in 2008/2009 to 42.7% in 2014/2015. Males had higher odds than females of reporting current use of flavored SLT. Current smokers had higher odds than non-smokers to report current use of flavored SLT. Conclusion: These findings demonstrate that in Canada, youth SLT use appears to be increasing modestly. These results may be used to examine the impact of policy changes related to tobacco flavor. We encourage ongoing monitoring of SLT.
