•Obesity results in adipose tissue dysfunction.•Anthocyanin-rich QGPJ significantly decreases body weight and BMI after 4 weeks.•QGPJ significantly increases adiponectin and decreases leptin blood levels.•QGPJ may be used as a functional food factor for preventing obesity.
