Usefulness of running animal models in absence of pedigrees: Estimation of genetic parameters for gastrointestinal parasite resistance traits in Djallonké sheep of Burkina Faso

•Genetic parameters for packed cell volume, log-transformed fecal egg count and FAMACHA scores were obtained for the first time in Djallonké sheep.•Animal models were run in absence of pedigrees using molecular information to construct relatedness matrices.•The advantages of running pedigree-free animal models in developing countries are discussed.
