Feasibility of using renewable energy to supply data centers in 60° north latitude

•Powering data centers with renewable energy sources in high northern latitude, where solar energy is highly variable over the year, is an unexplored field of research.•We estimate the coverage potential of renewable energy provided by 1m2 solar panel and 1 wind turbine, over a data center energy demand, analyzing different periods of the year.•Quantitative implication and energy cost trade-off is evaluated for using different combinations of renewable energy sources
