Análise exploratória de dados de viagens pendulares visando a definição de regiões urbanas homogêneas

The proposed paper aims to provide new subsidies to the definition of Functional Urban Regions (FURs), testing the viability of a variable not yet explored in Brazil: commuting flows. Thus, a case study is developed in the state of Sao Paulo. With the application of spatial statistics techniques on travel data and construction of Box Maps, the results were compared with the limits of the official FURs. The obtained results reflect the interrelations among municipalities within the FURs, since attractive areas appear next to peripheral areas and highlight important regional centers, which can be the core of conurbations in the future.
