•Consumer interest in nutrition information on chewing gum packages is relatively low.•Sugar-free chewing gum users are more interested in relevant nutrition information.•Interest is highest for sugars, energy and carbohydrates in chewing gum.•Low and medium users a more aware of relevant/non-relevant nutrients in chewing gum.•Heavy users appear less concerned about nutrition and health regarding chewing gum.
