•BioFreedom is the first drug-coated stent to be introduced for clinical use in a study in the United States.•The study demonstrates that the BioFreedom DCS has adequate efficacy when compared to first-generation drug-eluting stents.•This was the first study in the US to apply only 3months of DAPT, as compared with the customary 12months.
