•A new approach is designed to improve the robustness of iterative processes for image deblurring.•A relaxed initiation of iterative processes is designed to prevent the propagation of the noise term in the observed images.•A pixel-wise update of the step size for the iterative process is introduced to prevent divergence in computation.•The new method can restore blurred images when the signal-to-noise ratio is low.
