Grouping workers with similar learning profiles in mass customization production lines

•A new framework to group workers according to their learning profiles.•Several Learning Curve (LC) models were tested, and most important LC parameters were retained.•Retained LC parameters were associated to workers’ previous experience and performance in the first repetition.•Proposed framework was applied to the shoe industry.
