Effectiveness of psychoeducational interventions for the treatment of diabetes-specific emotional distress and glycaemic control in people with type 2 diabetes: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

•The impact of 32 interventions on diabetes-specific distress was assessed using meta-analysis.•Of these, 23 studies were analysed to assess their impact on glycaemic control.•Overall significant reductions were seen for both distress and glycaemic control.•Analyses to explore intervention characteristics that may mediate the effect were inconclusive.•Further research is needed; specifically with distress as a primary outcome measure.
