•Elderly patients in urology receive potentially inappropriate medications (PIMs).•73.7% of patients with lower urinary tract symptoms received PIMs at least once.•The average number of PIMs used per patient was 1.31 ± 1.25 (0–7).•Number of chronic diseases and polypharmacy were predictive factors for PIMs.
