•Hypoglycaemia has been associated with an increased risk of death.•Arrhythmic disorders are the potential link between hypoglycaemia and death.•The relationship of beta-blockers selectivity, hypoglycaemia, and death is unclear.•Following hypoglycaemia, non-selective beta-blockers were not associated with death.•Beta1-selective beta-blockers were potentially associated with lower risk of death.
