The urotensin system is abundantly expressed in calcified regions of stenotic aortic valves compared with normal tissues and contributed to the pathogenesis of aortic valve stenosis by increase calcification and fibrosis, while decreasing cholesterol efflux in aortic valve interstitial cells.
