Rationale: Pro-protein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9), a serine protease that is responsible for the degradation of the low density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR), is accepted as a pro-atherogenic plasma marker. The PCSK9 levels are supposed to be responsive to the diet. However, it is not clear how plasma concentrations of PCSK9 are changed after a high fat or high fructose diet.
