摘要

•A novel type of bivariate rational fractal interpolation functions (BRFIFs) with function scaling factors is constructed.•The BRFIFs are more suitable for interpolating or approximating to the irregular date than the current interpolation.•The BRFIFs have good stability and quasi-locality, provide more flexibility and diversity in practical applications.
