Cardio-supportive devices (VRD & DCC device) and patches for advanced heart failure: A review, summary of state of the art and future directions

•We explained all the Direct Cardiac Compression (DCC) devices, ventricular restraint devices (VRT) and Heart Patches.•Active hydraulic ventricular attaching support system (ASD) is a multifunctional cardiac support device and a heart patch.•Firstly as a DCC device and externally compresses the weekend heart by pneumatic pump and maintained the circulation.•Secondly as a VRD and mechanically restrains the heart by biocompatible material to prevent cardiomyopathy.•Thirdly as a Heart Patch and delivers the biological and pharmacological agents.
