A simple and compact smartphone-based device for the quantitative readout of colloidal gold lateral flow immunoassay strips

•This smartphone-based reader can be used to quantitatively reading AuNPs-LFISs of different principles and analytical targets.•Smartphone’s ambient light sensor be used to measure the transmitted light intensities of the strips.•The reader provided an on-site quantitative analysis tool and enhances the applied range of lateral flow immunoassay strips.
