•Three-dimensional ordered meso-macroporous Co3O4/3DOM La0.7Sr0.3Fe0.5Co0.5O3 (LSFCO) was prepared in the work.•The interaction between Co3O4 and 3DOM LSFCO enhances the oxidation of 1,2-DCE and inhibits the formation of by-products.•10 wt.%Co3O4/3DOM LSFCO presents the best activity and highest resistance to chlorine poisoning.•Reaction pathway and mechanism of 1,2-DCE were proposed by confirming the species of functional groups and by-products.
