Self-cleaning V-TiO2:SiO2 thin-film coatings with enhanced transmission for solar glass cover and related applications

•V-TiO2-SiO2 coating simultaneously exhibits antireflecting, self-cleaning properties extending to visible light irradiation.•15wt.% V-TiO2-SiO2 is found to exhibit >3% enhancement in the transmittance of glass.•15% V-TiO2-SiO2 coatings are found to be nearly superhydrophillic.•The O2 plasma treatment decreases the contact angle to 0°.
