Appendicular and whole body lean mass outcomes are associated with finite element analysis-derived bone strength at the distal radius and tibia in adults aged 40 years and older

摘要
•Body composition-bone strength associations in middle to late adulthood were explored with HRpQCT finite element analysis.•Appendicular and whole body lean mass were positively associated with failure load at the distal radius and tibia.•Whole body fat mass index was weakly related to cortical-to-trabecular load ratio at both anatomical sites.•Muscle-related lean mass influences failure load similarly at weight bearing (tibia) and non-weight bearing sites (radius).
