摘要

•New bi-functional polymers were prepared from the p-VAm-gel.•Polymers show high adsorption capacity (248.76mg/g) for Hg(II) ions.•These are highly selective for Hg(II) ions.•Adsorbents show good reusability up to eight cycles.•The gels also exhibit mild antibacterial properties.
