Effect of climate change on land suitability for surface irrigation and irrigation potential of the shallow groundwater in Ghana

•Potential land suitable for irrigable using groundwater and effect of climate change were evaluated.•Nearly 9% of the landmass (about 23,000 km2) is suitable for surface irrigation.•A large portion of the suitable land has a shallow groundwater access (<25 m)•Climate change will significantly affect suitability of the land significantly in 2050s and 2070s.
