•Dewetting kinetics of water from RPLC columns is investigated.•An experimental protocol is designed for accurate measurement of water extrusion.•Temperature speeds up dewetting kinetics due to faster nucleation of vapor bubbles.•Dewetting kinetics is not solely controlled by the contact angle and pore size.•Dewetting kinetics is also governed by the mesopore architecture and connectivity.
