•30 recombinant proteins, which covered the entire Pfs230 molecule, were expressed.•Antibodies against each construct were tested by Western blot, IFA and SMFA.•All constructs containing CM domain 1 induced SMFA-positive antibodies.•All constructs without CM domain 1 elicited SMFA-negative antibodies.
