LaserFoot: 6-DOF Tracking method over an Optical Touchscreen

Using an interaction tool such as an airbrush over a tabletop computer will enable more natural and rich interaction techniques. In order to realize such an over-the-surface tool, a tracking method with a high degree of freedom (DOF) is required. In this paper, we introduce a novel 6-DOF tracking method that can be used to track a tool over an optical touchscreen tabletop. The main advantage of the proposed method over other tracking methods is that it utilizes the sensing capability of an optical touchscreen and does not require the addition of extra sensors to the tabletop. We verify the feasibility of the proposed tracking method and demonstrate an application example using an over-the-surface tool enabled by the new 6-DOF tracking method.
