•Partially coherent vortex beam with periodical coherence properties is introduced theoretically and generated experimentally.•Intensity lattices with controllable beamlet can be formed through varying initial coherence width.•Partially coherent vortex beam with periodical coherence properties is useful for particle trapping and information transfer.
