•An acidic arabinogalactan (AGP-2) is purified from Green gram (Vigna radiata).•AGP-2 is a high molecular weight (∼1200 kDa) Type II arabinogalactan.•AGP-2 activates macrophages by inducing NO, cytokines release and phagocytosis.•Uronic acid of AGP-2 is contributing significantly towards immunomodulatory activity.
