•Barru Block shows a history quite distinct from that of Bantimala Block.•Metamorphism occurred at 70.7 ± 2.4 Ma, 107.3 ± 0.7 Ma and 110 ± 2.4 Ma.•The rocks have various protoliths that formed under different tectonic settings.
