Clinical Characteristics And Egd Surveillance In Lynch-Syndrome Patients With Small Bowel/Duodenal Carcinomas

1555Background: Small bowel carcinomas (SBC) account for less than 5% of all gastrointestinal malignancies in the general population. However in patients with Lynch-Syndrome (LS) the life-time-risk for SBC is reported as high as 10%. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of esophago-gastro-duodenoscopy (EGD) surveillance for early detection of proximal SBCs. Methods: The German Consortium for Intestinal Cancer database was screened for patients with a diagnosis of SBC. General tumor characteristics such as mutational status and age specific incidence where analyzed. Tumor stage at diagnosis was used as a surrogate parameter for prognosis and correlated to patients being diagnosed by symptoms compared to patients diagnosed by EGD-surveillance. Furthermore, adherence to EGD-surveillance after SBC diagnosis was correlated to survival. Statistics were calculated using Fisher’s exact test.
