Deep learning for supervised classification of spatial epidemics

•Supervised classification is proposed as an alternative to sampling-based inference in epidemic modelling.•Deep learning-based classifiers with and without a temporal component are compared to shallow methods.•Overall, random forests perform similarly to static deep learning models.•Temporal models outperform static models on a sparser simulated population.
