摘要

•This marks the 1st geochronological study of zircons from the rivers of Sri Lanka.•New data on Rare Earth Elements and U–Pb ages of river-zircons are reported.•River-zircons depict crustal growth in Sri Lankan basement began in early Archean.•Ca. 70% of crustal growth in Sri Lanka is recorded in the Neoproterozoic.
