Immobilized enzyme-based analytical tools in the -omics era: Recent advances

•IMERs offer clear advantages in sample processing in proteomics and glycomics.•Among proteases, trypsin is the most exploited protease for IMER preparation.•All IMERs so far developed for protein deglycosylation are based on PNGase F.•Different IMER formats are proposed including beads, capillary and chips.•Tandem and dual IMERs started to appear mainly to enhance digestion efficiency.
