Comprehensive separation of major compositions from Sophora japonica var. violacea by counter-current chromatography using a liquid-liquid extraction strategy

•A strategy was developed to comprehensive separation of major compounds from natural product.•Sample pretreatment was synchronized with the solvent system selection of HSCCC.•Six major compounds were efficiently separated from the complex natural extraction.
