Frequency response expansion strategy for nonlinear structures

•We propose a novel strategy to expand spatially-incomplete data for nonlinear structures.•This proposed strategy is an extension of the linear expansion techniques.•Measured FRF data using low- and high-amplitude forcing inputs are required.•The strategy is validated using a numerical and an experimental example.
