摘要

•Zn-doped MgO crystal has a lower work function than undoped one.•Zn-doped MgO/Au film has a larger MgO grain size and a smoother surface.•Electrical conductivity of MgO/Au film is improved with a Zn-doped MgO layer.•Secondary electron emission properties of MgO/Au film are enhanced by Zn doping.
