Structural control and hydrothermal evolution model of unusual, high-grade metasandstone-hosted iron deposits, mesoproterozoic eastern chapada diamantina, Brazil

•Ibicoara hematite deposits are hosted in sterile sandstones from the Tombador Formation.•Deposit evolution was related to the development of dilatational structures in shear zones.•Hematitized domains presented contents of Fe2O3 ranging between 44.41% and 98.26%.
