Performance comparison of reverse osmosis (RO) with integrated nanofiltration (NF) and reverse osmosis process for desalination of MBR effluent

•Scope of the research was to see the effect of NF pre-treatment prior to RO process.•Experiments were conducted under same conditions with different feed solutions.•Although more water can be produced by application of only RO process, the permeate quality increased when NF pre-treatment is applied.•Both single RO study and NF pre-treatment study provided requirements for some process water reuse applications in the industry.
