•Water storage at Paiku Co was estimated to be 109.3 × 108 m3 in June 2016.•Lake storage at Paiku Co decreased by (10.1 ± 0.8) × 108 m3 between 1972 and 2015.•Seasonal changes in lake level between 2013 and 2017 were demonstrated.
