Genetic parameters and accuracy of traditional and genomic breeding values for eye pigmentation, hair coat and breed standard in Hereford and Braford cattle

•Threshold mixed linear models were used to estimate genetic parameters.•High heritabilities were found for eye pigmentation and hair coat.•It is possible to obtain genetic gains by selection of these traits in Hereford and Braford cattle.•The favorable correlations allow selection of more adapted animals to tropical conditions.•Use of genomic information should result in more accurate breeding values predictions.
