Geographical clustering and firm growth: Differential growth performance among clustered firms

•Investigates the differential effects of being located in a cluster on firm growth.•Based on the idea that, contrary to the conventional wisdom, advantages of geographical clustering are not randomly available to clustered firms.•Due to intense competition among clustered firms for resources, firms who are more attractive to resources achieve higher growth.•Corporate attractiveness to resources and incoming knowledge spillovers positively condition the clustering-growth relationship.
